How important?

When in a relationship with someone, how important is it for that person to get along with your family?
For me, I think it’s pretty important.  It’s not necessarily that I’ll break things off with the person if he doesn’t get along with my family; however, it’s something that I want out of a significant other.  I want the person to genuinely try to interact with my family and want to spend time with the people that are closest to me.
So, how important is that to you?

Okay, so wordpress apparently hates me.  I just imported some pictures to iphoto and it won’t show them when I try to put them on the blog 😦 Whyyyyy are you doing this to me, wordpress?

I’m going to try to figure this out and I’ll have an actual post once I can get the pictures up here.

  1. oh oh , I found bloggo (go google it) is like the microsoft version of live wire (I think that’s what it was called)

it’s 25 bucks to download it but I am considering it!

that only took me over a week to find out!
and yes it’s very important that all your loved ones get along. it’s a much harder life without support of your family

    TRUST ME

    xoxoxox

    • I don’t really want to pay for anything though 😦 haha. I purchased mobile me with my computer and the salesman said that you can get a domain paid for through that, so maybe I’ll try that out and just leave wordpress. I’d be scared to somehow mess myself up doing that though, so I’d definitely need help lol.

      I definitely agree 🙂

  2. I am glad you realize how important it really is, because I think it is extremely important 🙂 ❤

  3. Yeah it’s really important to me that my bf and my family get along!! I want everyone to like eachother and be comfortable around eachother!

    • Yeah 🙂 I’m assuming Alex gets along well with your family? A certain level of comfort is EXTREMELY important when it comes to relationships 🙂

  4. I think it is important because it definitely makes things easier. But I don’t know that it would be a make or break deal for me. Thankfully Keith loves my family! 🙂

    • I agree 🙂 that’s great that Keith gets along with your family 🙂 Justin gets along really well with mine as well, which is awesome 🙂

  5. Its extremely important. My family’s perspective is very important to me and if my parents feel there is something weird with the boy then he is done.

    • I can tell that you’re a very family oriented person, so that doesn’t surprise me at all 🙂 It’s a good thing that it’s that important to you. Family is really the only constant out there.

  6. It is really important to me. I have a pretty large family that always gets together on many holidays. Therefore if I brought someone around that they didn’t like or approve of, it would just be tense the entire time. However, if I thought they were wrongfully judging him, than I wouldn’t care and try to prove them wrong. But most of the time, our instincts can tell us if that person is truly good or not. btw, my family loves my husband, so I got that taken care of for life!

    • Mine gets together for holidays as well, but I often can’t go considering holidays are usually really busy at my work. That’s great that your family gets along with your husband! 🙂

It depends. Bob gets along with my friends and family, but because he is so much older than me and my friends, he doesn’t really socialize with us.

It’s not a deal breaker, necessarily, because some people just don’t like you or your significant other. As long as s/he is okay with that, it’s all good.

    • I don’t think it’s an actual deal breaker either, at least not for me. I do feel it’s pretty important though. That’s good that he gets along with everyone, even if you don’t all really hang out together 🙂 Sometimes, friends and significant others need to be kept somewhat apart so you have some space 🙂

  8. It is important to me.

that’s partly why i couldnt be with my last boyfriend. all his family did was badmouth me. they didnt accept me at all. after a while it became a deal breaker.

my family and my current bf get along well. it makes it so much better

    • That sucks 😦 I always stress that someone’s family/friends aren’t going to like me. That’s good that your current boyfriend gets along with your family 🙂

  9. I would say there are very few special cases in which it would not be a deal breaker. Everyone needs their separate lives from their family; however, the family is usually the best indication and judgement of a significant other. Although it is often portrayed in the movies that some significant others have a tough time when meeting the family, followed by an ending where everyone gets along. It doesn’t often work that way.

There are special cases where families can be too judgmental, especially when there are situations which they do not fully understand. If the family does not get along with or disapproves of a significant other, they probably have this assertion based on a valid reason. My vote is to always use your family as a guide! 🙂

    • Your just saying that because my family likes you & your family likes me lol.

      • like??? They LOVE US! Although this is true and it could appear to make me bias, perhaps this reason in itself is a testament of which I am speaking. As children we hate to admit it, but often times our parents are right when it comes to personal matters about their children! I would say in any reasonable relationship, parents wouldn’t have any trouble getting along with a significant other to their son/daughter. Especially if their opinion doesn’t change over time.
